Great day at Hebden Bridge Picture House, watching the animation films on a full-size screen with an appreciative audience. Well done to all the filmmakers in the competition.

Winner, Best Film, Uncanny Valley Animation Festival 2013  AND Winner, Audience Choice, Uncanny Valley 2013.

Stylish animation with a cool, retro-inspired look and a wicked sense of humour. Clear winner for the judges and the audience!

 

Laurel_wreathThe Rose of Turaida by Ryan Grobins (Australia)

Another clear Winner with the judges. Selected for the strength of its narrative, beautifully evoked through a perfect marriage of storytelling and visuals – which looked stunning on a big screen.

 

 

Laurel_wreathFirst Fish by Veronika Gottichova (Czech Republic)

Again, a clear Winner and the judges third choice. This stop motion animation scored highly for its creativity and skill.

 

 

Laurel_wreath Point in Time by Shizuko Tabata (Japan)

This intriguing, beautifully crafted film was awarded a Special Commendation by the judges – see if you can work out how Shizuko Tabata achieved this effect (it took us a while).
