Get involved in the Uncanny Valley Festival 2013.
It is our belief that Hebden Bridge should have a film festival. We have a beautiful single-screen cinema, a community cinema group and many venues where film can be screened. We also have a well established Arts Festival, now in its 20th year!
There is a wealth of talent in the Calder Valley, and the wider region – so let’s celebrate and help to develop this talent. Uncanny Valley is just beginning, and our aim is to develop into an annual event.
A dedicated film festival will:
Provide opportunities for filmmakers to screen their work publicly. Online, year round film festivals are one outlet for filmmakers, but there is nothing quite like the presence of a real audience, drawn from a cross-section of the community. Films screened in the open submissions session will be judged by the audience.
Provide a focus for filmmakers to network and make valuable contacts. Alongside the audience award we also have a judges award – and the panel of judges are drawn from industry, education and independent filmmakers.
How you can help – volunteer
Uncanny Valley needs to recruit young people from the area who are already interested in or studying animation or art organisation (at College or University). These volunteers can gain experience in all aspects of running the festival. Through their involvement with the festival they have the opportunity to meet a range of filmmakers working in animation at different stages in their professional development and practice.
We are also keen to recruit a recent graduate in film/animation, as the opportunity to get involved in the establishment and running of a festival could be very valuable to someone at this stage in their career development.
